3 people shot at Torrence, Fifth streets in Dayton

UPDATE @ 12 p.m., June 1:

According to a Dayton Police report, the van suspected to be involved in the shooting of three people was reported to be stolen from a man in Riverside. The vehicle was seen being driven “erratically” down Bierce Ave. and then a woman parked it. She was described as wearing all white, about 5’ 4” tall, skinny with shorter, darker colored hair.

A woman matching that description was later arrested at the crime scene after 11 p.m.

The report says Beverly Coker, 52, was walking through the area. When she was questioned, she admitted to officers that she’d taken the van from a man after having gotten drunk and smoking weed. She told the officers he gave her the keys to vehicle to get more beer, but she drove to her mother’s house and passed out, sleeping for most of the day. Coker reportedly told police she was at the crime scene to check if her daughter was involved in the shooting, because the victims are her daughter’s friends.

Coker was arrested for receiving stolen property and is being held in Montgomery County Jail.
