Icy conditions cause 5-car crash on I-75

Icy conditions caused a five-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 75 in Franklin that shut down the highway for 90 minutes this morning.

Three people were reportedly taken to the hospital after the collision at the Ohio 123 exit.

Two vehicles left the scene before emergency crews arrived, according to initial reports. A van, a pickup and an SUV remained on the scene.

The Ohio Highway Patrol has not yet been able to provide details about the accident. They brought in salt crews to treat the area before re-opening the highway around 7 a.m.

The incident was one of several crashes on I-75 that snarled traffic between Springboro and Middletown.

On the northbound side, the left two lanes were blocked near Ohio 73 for a trailer was in the highway around 5 a.m. There were no reports of injuries there.

A slide-off was reported about two-and-a-half hours later in the same spot.

Troopers also reported there were multiple crashes in the northbound lanes around Ohio 122 in Middletown. Traffic was able to get by slowly around 8 a.m.
