Witnesses: Mother crashes after child in back seat gets finger stuck

UPDATE @ 10:59 p.m.:  Navajo Trail near Jamestown remains closed at this hour as DP&L is bringing in a second crew to replace the pole knocked down in the vehicle accident.

While only nine customers are without power, DP&L spokesman Rob Beeler said, those customers will be without power for another two to three hours because of the work that needs to be performed.

Meantime, Sgt. Richard Milstead, Xenia Post Ohio Highway Patrol, said the driver of the car that smacked the pole will be cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.

He said he could not confirm what neighbors said, that the woman apparently turned around to check on one of two children in the Saturn SUV and drove off the left side of the road.

According to the Greene County Sheriff's office, Navajo Trail will remain closed at Huron Trail until further notice.

UPDATE @ 7:30 p.m.:

A mother crashed her car and knocked down a pole after one of her two children in the back seat got a finger stuck in something, witnesses said.

The woman was driving just before 6:30 p.m. in the 4000 block of Navajo Trail near Jamestown when she apparently turned around to see what was wrong with the child. She then went off the left side of the road and into a yard before striking a utility pole. The impact toppled the pole and brought down wires, according to neighbors.

The woman suffered a cut to her hand and was taken to a local hospital. The two children also were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Jasper Twp. fire personnel said.

The crash knocked out power to two houses. Residents were told it would take about four hours for Dayton Power & Light crews to make repairs and restore service.
