Driver cited in Darke County semi crash that killed 3 pigs

GREENVILLE — UPDATE @ 7:03 p.m.:

The driver was charged with a traffic violation in the crash that killed at least three of 700 feeder pigs.

Michael Willey, 45, of Winchester, Indiana was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control, according to Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

The stock trailer involved in a rollover crash Monday contained 700 feeder pigs, according to Deputy Ronald Beisner.

Deputies and crews from New Madison Fire and Tri Village Rescue were dispatched to the 2700 block of Preble County Butler Township Road after a semi truck and trailer drove off the roadway, struck a utility pole, and overturned on its side, according to the sheriff’s office.

It is not known where the pigs were taken, but farmers came with vehicles to transport them, Darke County dispatch said.

Willey was treated and released at the scene.

INITIAL REPORT:

A crash involving a semi hauling pigs has authorities corralling pigs this afternoon, according to officials.

Emergency crews responded to the crash in the area of Ohio 121 and Preble County Butler Township Road around 2:30 p.m.

Officials said the semi driver was travelling north, when he lost control and overturned the semi.

The load of pigs got loose following the crash, officials said.
