Man evading police rescued after jumping in Great Miami River

UPDATE @12:06 p.m.

A Middletown man who jumped into the Great Miami River this morning to evade police is back in custody in Clermont County.

Jesse Joseph Rogers, 25, of Middletown, was near the Maxwell Apartments on River Street when a relative called police to notify them that he was in town and was wanted by police, according to Franklin police Capt. Ross Coulton.

As police arrived to arrest him on a felony theft and breaking and entering warrant from Clermont County, Rogers ran, going over the bike path and into the river. Officers called for a rescue boat to be sent, but cancelled the request after they got Rogers out of the river near the Lions Bridge, Coulton said.

Rogers claimed that he hurt his ankle after he was arrested. He was taken to the Kettering Emergency Center in Franklin. However, it was found he was not injured and he was turned over to Clermont County authorities.
