Inmate breaks window, falls 3 floors in escape attempt from Greene Co. Jail

An inmate was able to break open a window and fell three floors from the Greene County Jail in an apparent escape attempt, according to Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer.

Around 2:30 a.m. a City of Xenia employee notified jail officials that an inmate was laying on the sidewalk outside the jail facility, Fischer said in a prepared release.

The inmate, identified as Bryan Goney, was assigned to an isolation cell on the third floor.

“It appears Goney was able to break open a window to that cell and went out the window and fell to the ground,” Fischer said.

Investigators found a jail employee had made contact with Goney in his jail cell around 2:20 a.m. while making a routine check of jail cells.

Goney was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple bone fractures.

Goney is serving time in the Greene County Jail after he was found guilty of robbery and kidnapping. He was awaiting final sentencing for his conviction.

Fischer said a new investigation has been opened for possible escape charges to be filed against Goney.
