The woman quickly got her boys and two pet dogs out of the house when she noticed smoke in a front room.

Whitby said the fire is under investigation as suspicious due to a report of a fire burning near the home shortly before flames spread to the attic.

The Red Cross has been called for the family as the home has been deemed a complete loss.

Whitby said older homes in Dayton tend to burn more slowly than those built with modern materials.

“Those burn extremely fast (newer homes) but it’s not their fault it’s just current lightweight construction you’d find in a modern home.”

A neighbor told our news crew she witnessed a trash can on fire in the area shortly before the fire spread to the home.

Whitby said a fire investigator at the scene will continue to collect evidence as crews work clean up the scene.

UPDATE @ 7:35 a.m.

A woman and her two dogs are reportedly safe after a fire fully engulfed the Danner Avenue home they were in Monday evening.

A neighbor in the area tells our crew she noticed a fire in a trash can at the house before the flames spread quickly.

"I went to grab my house thinking I was going to do something and by the time I came back around the whole top of the house was smoking," Portia Williamson said.

Williamson said a woman living at the house made it out quickly with her dogs before fire crews arrived.

"I was concerned about my house because you can see how fast these things happen."

The fire is now out, according to our crew, and firefighters are working to secure the scene.

Our crew is working to learn what caused the fire and the extent of the damages.
