Clark County handing out free Covid-19 tests during holiday giveaway

SPRINGFIELD — The Clark County Combine Health District (CCCHD) will be giving away free Covid-19 tests on Wednesday, according to a CCCHD spokesperson.

The tests will be handed out during the district’s holiday Covid-19 self-test giveaway at the 500 block of E. Home Road from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“Identifying a COVID infection as early as possible following onset of symptoms or learning of potential exposure is critical to reducing the risk of severe illness or hospitalization from the virus, and an adequate supply of at-home test kits can be the first steps towards identifying and successfully treating an exposure to COVID,” the spokesperson said.

At least 2,000 Covid tests were distributed during a similar drive-thru event just before Thanksgiving, the health district said.

These at-home tests can provide results in just a few minutes rather than multiple days residents would wait to receive their results from a lab, the spokesperson said. Confirming a COVID-19 infection early, as well as following proper protocol can help reduce the spread of the virus.

Public Health recommends that any positive tests be self-reported online by filling out a brief questionnaire on the CCCHD website, the spokesperson said.
