Cleanup continues in aftermath of Tuesday’s storms

Crews in Preble County continue to work with damage that has caused road closures in a few parts of the county.

The Ohio Department of Transportation said Ohio 320 between U.S. 40 and Ohio 121, near the Ohio-Indiana border will be blocked through parts of today due to downed power lines and trees in the area. ODOT said around 30 trees were knocked down into the roadway and will be removed today.

The Preble County Sheriff’s Office said Eaton Gettysburg Road, north of Eaton New Hope Road, and Jordan Road, north of U.S. 35 are blocked due to storm damage last night.

DP&L and other tree removal crews worked on damage reported in Trotwood on North Union Road between U.S. 35 and Hoover Avenue and on Miller Avenue south of Hoover Avenue.

UPDATE @ 8:30 a.m. (July 12): 

Crews and homeowners are continuing to clean up damage, downed trees, and work to restore power after storms on Tuesday brought high winds.

On North Union Road in Trotwood, between U.S. 35 and Hoover Avenue, our crew reported multiple large trees down completely blocking North Union Road.

According to an online dispatch page, police and fire crews in Montgomery County are still responding to reports of downed trees, downed wires, and traffic signs that are out.

Thousands of DP&L customers also remain in the dark as crews continue to work to restore power.

UPDATE @ 9:35 p.m. (July 11):

Crews are continuing to clear downed trees, branches and power lines from streets in Dayton and in Montgomery County in the aftermath of late afternoon storms.

The DP&L online outage page at 9:30 p.m. is reporting a little more than 13,000 customers still without power.

Montgomery County Regional Dispatch is reporting trees down in the following places:

In Miamisburg, the area of Kercher Street and North Fourth Street

In Dayton, the 600 block of Whitmore Avenue

In Dayton, the 2900 block of Ensley Avenue

In Jefferson Twp., the area of Hemple and South Diamond Mill roads

INITIAL REPORT

Rough weather featuring high winds and heavy rain passing through Montgomery County on Tuesday afternoon is leaving behind numerous reports of downed trees on homes, downed branches, siding stripped from homes and power outages.

The 165th Montgomery County Fair was forced to close temporarily because of the rain and high wind.

Gusty winds are expected to continue raking the county for at least another hour before dying down, Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said about 3:50 p.m.

"We heard tree limbs crack all over the place. We went out and checked and our power kept going in and out," said Jessie Crouther, whose family home on Gregory Avenue in New Lebanon was hit by a large tree that fell during the stormy weather.

Just after 5 p.m., Dayton Power & Light online outage is reporting an estimated 24,504 outages for Montgomery County alone.

There have been reports of damage throughout the county. Here are some of the reports that come from the afternoon storms:

3:46 p.m.: Pieces of siding blown from homes in Miamisburg

3:45 p.m.: Tree has fallen onto a house in the 600 block of Gregory Avenue in New Lebanon

3:26 p.m.: Trees reported down in Trotwood, the worst band of damage apparently located between I-70 and U.S. 35 in Perry Twp.

3:35 p.m.: Multiple trees and limbs down from 7300 to 8900 National Road, about 5 miles west of Englewood, according to reports from amateur radio operators.

3:21p.m.: In Germantown, several large trees down near Farmersville
