1 dead after being found in burning vehicle in Dayton

DAYTON — One person is dead after being found in a burned vehicle early Wednesday morning.

Firefighters from the Dayton Fire Department were called out to the 500 block of Baltimore Street around 4:18 a.m. on reports of a possible vehicle fire.

When they got on scene, firefighters found a vehicle that was smoking from a fire inside of it.

Crews forced the vehicle open and put out the fire. After that, the found an adult inside the vehicle.

“It was quickly determined that the victim had sustained non-survivable injuries,” Captain Brad French said.

The person’s cause of death and the cause of the fire are both under investigation.

French noted this is the city’s fifth fatal fire incident this year. Nine people have died in fire incidents so far in 2023.
