Wanted Sidney man surrenders following SWAT standoff

A Sidney man wanted on two out-of-county warrants is in jail after Sidney police and Sidney/Piqua SWAT team members responded to a Merri Lane address Tuesday night.

David Pearson was arrested when he refused to open the door to the home in the 800 block of Merri Lane around 6:30 p.m.

Officers recognized Pearson as having two out-of-county warrants and being listed as armed an dangerous., according to Sidney Sgt. Joshua Divens.

Divens said when Pearson and the unnamed man refused to open the door, the joint, Sidney/Piqua Tactical Response Team was called while a search warrant was prepared.

Pearson was wanted on a warrant out of Wapakoneta for failure to appear for a traffic violation and on another out of Mercy County for child neglect, according to Divens.

Pearson surrendered to police without incident after SWAT team members were in place.

The man with Pearson walked out of the house shortly after and also surrendered before being briefly detained and released, according to Divens.

Divens said officers detected evidence of marijuana in the house and an investigation continues with Sidney detectives currently at the scene.
