Kettering firefighter placed on administrative leave

KETTERING — A city of Kettering firefighter was placed on paid administrative leave in October after officials were alerted about a Huber Heights police investigation involving the firefighter, this news organization has learned.

In a letter dated Oct. 10, Capt. Mark Williamson was told he was being placed on leave until further notice. However, the letter doesn’t specify why Williamson was being placed on leave. But in an email to a reporter a Kettering official said the firefighter was being put on leave because he was under investigation in another jurisdiction, and the city would cooperate with Huber Heights police.

When this news organization asked the Huber Heights Police Division about an open investigation involving Williamson, a reporter was given a redacted police report listing a pending investigation into possible acts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and disseminating matter harmful to a minor.

No charges have been filed, and Huber Heights police declined to explain Williamson’s connection or comment on the investigation. Williamson’s name is not listed on the report.

The report, however, lists a 14-year-old girl as a victim.

According to that same report, the victim turned 14 just six days before officers responded to a suspicious activity complaint in the abandoned parking lot of the former Lamendola Elementary school.

An iPhone was also seized by police at the scene.

Williamson, who was a cross-country coach at Weisenborn Junior High School in Huber Heights, was terminated on Sept. 28 for having a student in his car, a violation of school policy, according to school officials.

Williamson could not be reached for comments Monday.
