Mother’s Day weekend is typically the same time for getting into the garden, but this year will be a little different! If you are making plans to plant flowers for mom, you will want to plan carefully.
The good news is the entire weekend will not be a washout! Saturday is sunny and dry, so get outside with mom and take advantage of the first half of your weekend. Saturday morning will be cold enough for some spotty frost but the afternoon will be around 60 and sunshine will be out all afternoon.
The bad news is rain will return on Mother’s Day. A storm system will bring widespread rain into the Miami Valley. It will be cool and breezy in the upper 50s. Showers will be around for the morning and afternoon. Heavy rain will be possible and it won’t slow down until Sunday night. An inch or more of rain is expected.
BE CAREFUL IN THE GARDEN
Heavy rain on Sunday and below normal temperatures next week might make you pause putting new flowers in your garden this weekend. The soil will be soft and easy for weeding Saturday, but the heavy rain on Sunday could damage new flowers. We also have some nights in the 30s next week that could lead to more spotty frost. So plan with caution!
