The Harvest Moon — the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox — usually happens in September. But this year it casts its glow in the Northern Hemisphere in October.

This is because September already had a full moon on Sept. 5-6, and the autumnal equinox happened on Sept. 22, according to Earthsky.com.
