Look for Venus near the moon this week

Do some stargazing this week with quiet weather settling back into the Miami Valley! The waxing crescent moon will emerge after sunset and can guide you to a visible planet in the evening.

Look southwest around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 8-12 to find the waxing crescent moon close to the horizon. Near the moon each night will be a bright looking star which is actually the planet Venus! Venus sets by 9:30 p.m. so the window to see the pair is limited.

Two other bonus planets that stay close together all week are Jupiter and Saturn! Look for these all night as they rise in the southeastern sky after sunset and set in the southwestern sky before sunrise.
