Dayton uses second half run to beat Rhode Island

Ibi Watson leads Flyers with 22 points

DAYTON — Trailing, 32-29, the Dayton Flyers opened the second half on a 15-0 run to knock off the Rhode Island Rams, 67-56, Saturday afternoon at the UD Arena. Ibi Watson led four players in double figures with 22 points. Jalen Crutcher added 15 while Mustapha Amzil and Jordy Tshimanga each scored 11 points. UD made 52 percent of their shots in the second half. The Flyers improved to 10-4 overall, 6-3 in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton led 8-7 after a dunk by Ibi Watson with over16 minutes left in the first half but the Rams broke out to a 25-16 lead with 7:36 remaining until halftime. UD responded with an 11-4 run to cut the deficit to 29-27. Rhode Island led, 32-29, at halftime.

Ibi Watson scored eight points as Dayton outscored URI, 15-0, to lead, 44-32. Jalen Crutcher scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half, including seven straight points to extend the Flyer advantage to 54-38. Dayton never looked back.
