Dayton beats George Washington for their third straight win

FAIRFAX, VA — For the second time this season, the Dayton Flyers won their third straight game, knocking off the George Washington Colonials, 67-54, at Eaglebank Arena in Fairfax, VA. UD jumped out to an 18-2 lead to start and never trailed. Jalen Crutcher led all scorers with 23 points, including five three-pointers. Jordy Tshimanga had nine points and eight rebounds. The game was moved from Washington D.C. to George Mason University’s campus, 20 miles west of George Washington’s campus due to the security measures in Washington D.C. The Flyers improved to 8-3, 4-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton opened the game with four treys, one each by Mustapha Amzil, Jalen Crutcher, Ibi Watson and Elijah Weaver to go ahead, 14-2. George Washington called a timeout after a Jordy Tshimanga layup and UD led, 16-2. The Flyers got contributions off the bench including four points by Moulaye Sissoko and six points by Zimi Nwokeji. Both of them each had a dunk in the game. Dayton led, 35-22, at halftime.

George Washington got as close as four points in the second half, 51-47, with 6:45 remaining. But layups by Crutcher and Tshimanga increased it to 55-47. Crutcher buried a three as the shot clock expired to increase it 58-49 with 4:18 left to end any hopes of a Colonial comeback.

Dayton’s home game against George Washington Wednesday night has been postponed due to Covid-19 protocols. No make-up date has been set.
