Two UD Women’s Basketball Guards Are Coming Back

Two University of Dayton Women’s Basketball seniors have each announced that they will be back next season. Guards Erin Whalen and Jenna Giacone will both return for one more year. Whalen made the announcement on Instagram while Giacone posted it on both Twitter and Instagram.

Whalen transferred from Vanderbilt after the 2017-18 season. In her first year at UD, she was named Second Team All-Atlantic and All-Academic teams in 2019-20. Whalen also helped the Flyers to the both A-10 regular season and conference tournament championships before the pandemic.

Last season, Whalen was Dayton’s leading scorer at 13.6 points a game and was named to the A-10′s second and academic teams for the second straight year.

Giacone was named the Atlantic 10′s Most Improved Player last season. She was Dayton’s second leading scorer at 12.4 points a game, nearly doubling her point output from last season.

Dayton went 14-5 last season, including 12-1 in the Atlantic 10. UD won the Atlantic 10 regular season title but lost in the A-10 semifinals to eventual champ VCU. The Flyers’ season came to an end in Women’s National Invitational Tournament.
