Shauna Green hired as Dayton Flyers women’s basketball coach

The University of Dayton announced the hiring of Shauna Green as new women’s basketball coach on Sunday night.

Green, a former Dayton Flyers assistant under Jim Jabir, was an assistant coach at Northwestern University last season. She coached at UD from 2012-15. UD signed her to a multi-year contract.

“I am absolutely thrilled to return as the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Dayton, a place that is very special to my family and me,” Green said in a press release. “We could not be more excited for the opportunity to return to this outstanding University and the Dayton community. I am very grateful towards Dr. Spina and Neil for their confidence in me to continue to build on the tradition that Coach Jabir established at the University of Dayton.”

Dayton coach Jim Jabir announced his resignation on Wednesday after 13 seasons.

“I am excited to introduce Shauna Green as the head women’s basketball coach at the University of Dayton,” Dayton AD Neil Sullivan said in a statement. “Shauna has been an important part of our women’s basketball success since 2012 and she is well-positioned to continue the program’s strong momentum. She believes in our values and has a deep commitment to the women on our team. She has coached many players on the roster, and is the right person to lead our women’s basketball program.”

Green is a 2002 graduate of Canisius. There will be an official press conference on Wednesday at noon in the Donoher Center.
