New England Patriots offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Josh McDaniels reportedly turned down an interview request from the Cincinnati Bengals for their head coaching vacancy.

The Bengals are interviewing candidates to replace Marvin Lewis, whom the team parted ways with on Monday after 16 seasons.

McDaniels, 42, is an Ohio native who has coached for 13 seasons in the NFL, mostly as an assistant with the Patriots. He was the head coach of the Denver Broncos for two seasons (2010-11).

Last February, he was named the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts, but withdrew his name the same day and returned to the Patriots.

The Bengals have reportedly interviewed internal candidates Darrin Simmons, Bill Lazor and Hue Jackson this week, as well as former Denver head coach Vance Joseph, who previously was an assistant in Cincinnati. The team also reportedly plans to interview Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy and Rams assistants Zac Taylor and Shane Waldron.
