Miami Valley athlete stays in touch with college recruiters during pandemic

Dayton, Ohio — The “new normal” of the coronavirus is making things difficult on recruiting for college coaches, and several local athletes they are hoping to sign. Greenon quarterback Cade Rice was hoping to have in-person meetings with coaches this spring and summer, but right now that isn’t allowed.

“Right now it’s just working out at home in my basement," the Knights junior said this week. I’m also heading down to wherever I can go to get on a field to throw.”

Rice is making the most of the situation. He’s still allowed to talk with coaches online and send them videos of his workouts.

“Whoever is allowed out of the house, I take them down to wherever we can go to get some good videos taken.”

Rice threw for 32 touchdown passes last season, leading Greenon to an 8-2 record. That wasn’t quite good enough to get to the playoffs, but the senior-to-be is excited about getting back on the field this fall.

“We’re turning into a football community I truly believe,” Rice said. “Everyone is getting a lot more excited about our whole football program, and what we’re doing with it and how we’re turning it around.”

Rice also plays baseball at Greenon, but his future on the field is in football...wherever that might be.
