Dayton’s Daron Holmes II named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

DAYTON — University of Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his play in Dayton’s 69-60 win over Southern University last Tuesday.

This is the fifth straight week a UD freshman has been named A-10 rookie of the week. Point guard Malachi Smith won it November 30, December 6 and December 20. Holmes got it on December 13.

Holmes scored ten points, grabbed six rebounds, blocked four shots and dished out four assists against Southern University. He made three of five shots and four of six free throws.

Holmes is tied for the team lead in scoring at 10.4 PPG and second in rebounding (5.0). He leads the A-10 conference in field goal percentage (.651, 56-86). His 23 dunks are ranked third nationally among freshmen.

The Flyers are scheduled to begin Atlantic 10 play Thursday night against Rhode Island at the Ryan Center in Kingston, RI. Pre-game coverage begins at 6 pm, tip-off is at 7 pm and Flyer Feedback is after the game on the home of the Flyers; 1290 and 95-7, WHIO.
