Dayton goes on the road and upsets Saint Louis

Jalen Crutcher comes up big with 27 points

SAINT LOUIS, MO — The Dayton Flyers went on the road and knocked off the 22nd ranked Saint Louis Billikens, 76-71, Tuesday night at the Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis, Missouri. Jalen Crutcher led all scorers with 27 points, including 14 in the last four minutes. Ibi Watson added 18 for UD and Elijah Weaver scored 12 points. The Flyers never trailed Saint Louis in the game. Dayton improved to 9-4 overall, 5-3 in the Atlantic 10.

Dayton jumped out to a 12-4 lead making four three-pointers to start the game. Saint Louis cut UD’s lead to two on several occasions in the first half but each time the Flyers responded. The Billikens cut Dayton’s advantage to 24-22 but got basket by Moulaye Sissoko and an Ibi Watson three-pointer to extend the advantage to 30-22. The Flyers led 36-29 in the final seconds of the first half but Demarius Jacobs scored at time expired and Dayton had a 36-31 halftime advantage.

UD led 49-40 after a three-pointer by Ibi Watson but the Billikens went on a 15-6 run to tie the game, 55-55 with 4:31 remaining. That’s when Crutcher took over. He buried a three to put UD ahead, 58-55. The Flyers got a trey from Mustapha Amzil to go up, 63-57 and then Crutcher buried another three to increase the lead to 66-57 with 1:13 remaining. Dayton sealed the game with ten free throws.
