Dayton ends non-conference with a win over Southern University

DAYTON — The Dayton Flyers ended the non-conference portion of their schedule with 69-60 victory over the Southern University Jaguars Tuesday night at the UD Arena.

Kobe Elvis led UD with 15 points while Toumani Camara had a double-double: 13 points and 12 rebounds. Daron Holmes II added ten points while grabbing six rebounds, blocking four shots and dished out four assists. The Flyers made 51 percent of their shots, including 55 percent in the second half. But they also turned it over 14 times in the second half that led to 16 points for Southern University. Dayton improves to 8-5 overall.

Dayton led by as 22 points twice in the second half, including a 57-35 lead with 8:57 to play. But Southern University outscored UD, 20-4, over a six-plus minute stretch to cut the advantage to 61-55. Kobe Elvis helped seal the win with a layup with 1:26 to play and made two free throws with nine seconds left to extend the lead to nine points, 69-60.

The Flyers will be off now through Christmas. Their next scheduled game will December 30th when Dayton travels to Kingston, RI to play Rhode Island and begin Atlantic 10 play.
