Dayton’s DaRon Holmes named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

Holmes has three A-10 rookie honors, Flyers have six total for the season

Newport News, VA — University of Dayton forward DaRon Holmes II has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for his play in wins over Saint Louis at home and on the road at Duquesne last week.

Holmes averaged 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in two wins, shooting 65 percent from the field (13-20) and made three of four free throws. He scored 11 points and blocked five shots against Saint Louis and scored a career-high 18 points at Duquesne, making nine of 12 shots, including six dunks.

Holmes has named A-10 rookie of the week three times this season, gettin the honor on December 13th and 27th. Point guard Malachi Smith has been named three other times as well; November 30th, December 6th and December 20th.

The Flyers’ next game will be Tuesday night when they host St. Bonaventure at the UD Arena. Pre-game coverage begins at 6 pm, tip-off is at 7 pm and Flyer Feedback follows the game from Flanagan’s Pub on the home of the Flyers; 1290 and 95-7, WHIO.
