Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton out for the season

The Cincinnati Bengals push for the playoffs will go on without Andy Dalton.

The veteran quarterback will miss the rest of the season after suffering an injured thumb in Sunday’s 35-20 loss to the Browns. The Bengals placed Dalton on injured reserve this afternoon.

Backup Jeff Driskel, who finished Sunday’s game after the Dalton injury, will make his first career start Sunday vs. the Denver Broncos at Paul Brown Stadium.

Driskel completed 17 of 29 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown and also had one rushing touchdown against the Browns.

Dalton completed 226 of 365 passes for 2,566 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season.

To fill Dalton’s roster spot,  the Bengals acquired quarterback Tom Savage on waivers from the 49ers.

The Bengals (5-6) and Broncos (5-6) are out of the AFC playoff picture entering Sunday’s game. The Bengals, who have lost three in a row, are the 10th seed. The Broncos, who beat Pittsburgh on Sunday, are the 11th seed. The top six teams make the playoffs.
