Archdeacon: Wiggle It Jiggleit lives up to the hype at Dayton Raceway

DAYTON — In a stirring finish in front of the biggest crowd ever at Dayton Raceway, Wiggle It Jiggleit — the 2015 Harness Horse of the Year — won the $150,000 Dayton Pacing Derby Friday night by inches over Always B Miki.

“Dayton race fans were lined up all along the rail and cheered Wiggle It Jiggleit from the time he entered the track,” said Dayton race secretary Gregg Keidel. “And it ended up a fantastic race. It was every bit as thrilling as Wiggle It Jiggleit’s win (at the wire) at the Little Brown Jug last year.”

Driven by Montrell Teague, the 4-year-old gelding won in 1:49 1/5 Friday night and paid $4.40 and $2.20. He has now won 14 of 22 starts this year.

Always B Miki, who has now raced Wiggle It Jiggleit seven times this year with each horse winning three times and the other time both being upset, went off as the race favorite and paid $2.20 to place. Freaky Feet Pete was third.

The $160,000 Dayton Trotting Derby was won by Obrigado in 1:53 2/5. Driven by Mark MacDonald, he paid $5.40, $4.00 and $3.60. Centurion Atm was second and Wind of the North was third.
