— Melt Bar and Grilled, an Ohio favorite for gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, welcomes back a sandwich almost as popular as its namesake: the 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon Melt.

The most well-known, most beloved, most Melt-iest sandwich special of them all returns in December: hickory smoked bacon, black pepper crusted slab-cut bacon, maple bourbon glazed smoked pork belly, Italian pancetta, herb cream cheese with bacon bits, house-made bacon-infused mayonnaise, sharp cheddar, fresh romaine and sliced tomato.

December’s seasonal sides include:
Cheesy Loaded Potatoes / crispy roasted potatoes, cheddar cheese sauce, crumbled bacon, sour cream and scallions. Vegetarian available.
Kung Pow Broccoli / sautéed broccoli, spicy kung pow sauce, crushed peanuts. Vegetarian; vegan available.
The Melt Bar and Grilled featured dessert for December is Peanut Butter Cup Bread Pudding, with homemade chocolate bread pudding served warm and topped with a sweet peanut butter glaze, vanilla ice cream, real whipped cream, powdered sugar and sprinkles.
The featured beer for December is Bell’s Winter White, an alternative to dark and heavy winter warmers and stouts. Winter White is a stylish and refreshing wheat ale fermented with a Belgian ale yeast and a blend of barley and wheat malts that yields a mixture of clove and fruity aromas, all without the use of any spices.
The Melt Bar and Grilled November cocktail feature is Dude Goes South for the Winter. The Dude needed a Melt twist to his White Russian for the holiday season so we concocted this magical combination of Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka, Patron XO, house-made mexican cocoa milk, cinnamon sugar and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

— This is news library guests won’t want to be quiet about.
The wait is over for those who want baked goods and a cup of coffee with their books.
Table 33 has started serving food in its new location inside the Dayton Metro Library’s downtown branch at 215 E. Third St.
The restaurant’s soft opening started this week.
For now, Chuck Duritsch, the library’s external relations manager, said the restaurant will be open 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Right now they are offering their delicious coffee, some drinks, some baked goods, some juices,” he said. “They are going to add to the menu. There are going to be boxed lunches available. It will be a couple of weeks before their hours expand.”
Duritsch said the restaurant is also exploring the idea of a delivery service that would allow patrons to use an app to order food and/or pick up food from delivery spots designated within the library.
Table 33 may also offer catering down the road.
“They want to be responsive to what the patrons are going to be ordering,” he said. “You have to know your audience. That’s why they are doing this slow rollout.”
Dayton’s $64 million, state-of-the-art main branch library opened in August.
The main Table 33 restaurant is located at 130 W. Second St. and opened in 2016.

— A Dayton restaurant has three little piggies you are going to want battling the wolf in your belly.
Fifth Street Brewpub, 1600 E. Fifth St. in Dayton’s St. Anne’s Hill neighborhood, might be best known for its beer. But the kitchen brews up some delicious grub, too.

One particular sandwich stands out from the rest for a very piggy reason.
It is called the Pork Lord, and it had me at the words “pork” and “lord.”
The sandwich is full of porky goodness, as you can imagine. But it will not leave you feeling like a pig.
The $10 dish is a well-portioned combination of thin-ish sliced pork, bacon horseradish aioli and seasoned in-house pork rinds (called Crack–A–Lackin’s on the menu) on the side.
Besides the ham and bacon, the anything but simple sandwich includes lettuce, tomato, onion, a fried egg and ghost pepper jack cheese on a telera roll.

Don’t let the ghost pepper scare you off.
The sandwich has just the right amount of heat for those of us who love a little kick with supper.
The egg was cooked to perfection with plenty of delicious runny yolk to sop up.
The yolk flowed like lava when I cut into my Pork Lord.
The sandwich is cheesy, bacon-ey, eggy and spicy goodness.

The Pork Lord was added to Fifth Street’s menu in February.
Tanya Brock, Fifth Street’s manager, said the Pork Lord has become a customer favorite and will remain on the menu for a while going forward.
An order of thick and crunchy Crack-A-Lackin’s are $6 as an appetizer if you don’t want to go all hog wild.

— Last month, Bob Evans revealed its most Ohio-centric menu item yet— Buckeye hotcakes.
We snuck out of the Dayton.com office to try a stack of these peanut buttery, chocolate drizzled pancakes for lunch, and I am here to report that Bob Evans knocked it out of the park.
The pancakes come loaded with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, topped with Reese’s peanut butter sauce, powdered sugar and whipped topping on the side.
Now, this is coming from a breakfast connoisseur who opts for a more savory bite. However, Bob’s Buckeye pancakes have all the richness you’d hope for in a sweet breakfast option, but yet wasn’t too much to where I felt like I needed a glass of milk with every other bite.
This next part took my meal to the next level. For only 80 cents, you can top your stack with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

— A new snack shop that is no stranger to the Dayton area is coming to The Greene Town Center in Beavercreek, perhaps as early as this summer, a spokeswoman for The Greene said this afternoon.
Auntie Anne’s, an international pretzel-shop chain that operates a location in the Dayton Mall, has signed a lease and will move into the former Teavana space at 4450 Glengarry Drive on the development’s town square, the spokeswoman said.
The Dayton Mall Auntie Anne’s location opened in 2005, and plans to remain open, a manager of the store said today, April 16.

Starbucks, which owns and operates the Teavana brand, is in the process of closing all 379 locations across the U.S., and shut down its store at The Greene about six weeks ago.
Auntie Anne’s was founded in Pennsylvania in 1988 and now operates more than 1,700 locations in 48 states and more than 25 countries.
