Severe weather possible here for the weekend

The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center placed much of the Miami Valley under an Enhanced Risk for Severe Storms for Friday.

The severe weather that spawned numerous tornadoes across the Central Plains will shift east and south overnight and into the day Friday, with the threat for severe weather developing here during the afternoon hours,  Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Eric Elwell said.

“While a line of storms will be possible in the morning, the main activity is expected to occur near or shortly before sunset,” Elwell said.

The storm system responsible for the severe weather in Iowa, Missouri and Kansas will slowly shift into the Ohio Valley and then stall across the area through the weekend.

"The threat for severe storms will decrease some over the weekend," Elwell said, “but we will likely pick up some much needed rainfall over the next 72 hours.”

Despite the recent dry conditions, there could be some flash flooding if the rain falls too hard, too fast, Elwell said.

The weather pattern change also is forecast to hold temperatures into the upper 70s this weekend.
