Troy Cassano’s Back Open after positive case of COVID-19

TROY — The Cassano’s Troy location is back open after briefly closing over the weekend after an employee tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Miami County Health Department it is only the second restaurant in the department’s jurisdiction that has had to close since the re-opening.

County Health Commissioner Dennis Propes said that they’re following the Center for Disease Control’s best guidelines for how to handle a positive case at a restaurant.

The restaurant must close for at least 24 hours and do a thorough deep clean before re-opening.

The employee that tests positive will be in isolation and health department will do contact tracing of not only the families of the positive employee but any other employees that they have been in contact with too.

Propes said Cassano’s followed all of the guidelines and was able to reopen.

Any restaurant that has an employee that tests positive must work closely with the health department to ensure safety as they open.

“We really stress to the restaurants the importance of wearing the mask,” Propes said.

“If your employees are wearing the mask, if they’re practicing that social distancing, when an incident like this occurs the likelihood that you’ll be shut down for an extended period of time is drastically reduced.”

Propes added there was a case of a restaurant temporarily closing before the stay-at-home order but that was a presumed positive that ended up being negative for COVID-19.

Propes said the department feels fortunate so far that there’s only been two restaurants that have had to temporarily close since the re-opening. The other case happened in June at a Little Caesars in the county.

"It hasn't happened very frequently thus far but we fully anticipate to see a lot more of them," Propes said.

When asked to provide more information or details on the temporary closing a message with Cassano’s corporate office was not returned.
