Tornado aftermath: Kentucky’s first lady organizes toy drive for storm victims

The first lady of Kentucky is trying to bring some holiday cheer to children in the aftermath of deadly tornadoes that hit the state.

Britainy Beshear has announced a toy drive to help collect toys for children and their families who are trying to pick up the pieces of their lives.

The tornadoes that blew through the state hit just 15 days before Christmas.

“For many of us, the holidays are a time for being at home surrounded by family and friends,” Beshear said, according to WLEX. “But this year, many in Western Kentucky have suffered a tragedy. They’ve lost everything, including their homes and maybe even someone they love. With your help, we can make this season a little easier for those who are hurting by donating a toy, book or gift card to bring them some hope and joy during the holidays.”

The items should be new, unwrapped and in the original packaging, WLEX reported.

The age range is infant to teens, according to Beshear’s website.

They will also accept $25 Visa or MasterCard gift cards.
