Texas man who wanted to rape, kill, eat child receives 40-year prison sentence, officials say

JOAQUIN, Texas — A Texas man has received a 40-year prison sentence after authorities said he wanted to rape and kill a child, then eat her.

According to KTVT and the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Alexander Nathan Barter, 23, of Joaquin, was sentenced Thursday, nine months after he pleaded guilty to charges of child pornography distribution and trying to coerce and entice a minor. Following his 40-year federal prison term, he will remain under supervised release for the rest of his life, the outlets reported.

In October 2018, Barter wrote on the dark web that he wanted “to try necrophilia and cannibalism, and see how it feels to take a life,” authorities said.

“If you’d be willing to let me kill you, are in the U.S. (preferably in the South) and can travel by car, contact me,” he wrote in the ad, according to court documents.

The U.S. Department of Justice said an undercover officer posing as the father of a 13-year-old girl responded to Barter’s ad, the news outlets reported. In a series of messages with the officer, Barter indicated that he planned to rape, kill and eat the girl, authorities said.

Authorities said Barter agreed to meet the officer in Joaquin on Oct. 19, 2018, KTVT and the Telegraph reported. He brought a knife and garbage bag to the meeting, as well as a tablet and cellphone, investigators said.
