HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Pennsylvania woman is accused of fatally shooting her longtime boyfriend after learning he had fathered a child with another woman, authorities said.
LaTosha Stoney, 46, was charged with criminal homicide in the shooting death of Stanley “Fred” Cooksey, 50, according to Pennsylvania online court records. She is being held without bail, online records show.
The couple had been dating for about 26 years when Cooksey told Stoney about the birth of his daughter by another woman, the Patriot-News reported.
According to police, on July 7, Stoney was upset about Cooksey’s child and had been texting him hours before the shooting, WHP reported. He did not return her messages, and police said Stoney decided to stop by Cooksey’s apartment to ask why.
When Stoney arrived, she discovered Cooksey had been texting with the woman who had his child, and an argument ensued just before midnight.
Stoney told a 911 dispatcher that she and Cooksey had struggled over a handgun, and the weapon discharged, the television station reported. The bullet penetrated Stoney’s arm and fatally hit Cooksey in the face, the Patriot-News reported.
Cooksey was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the newspaper.
Stoney was treated by emergency medical services personnel on the scene and was taken to an area hospital, WHP reported.
Stoney will appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 9, according to online court records.
