According to a news release from Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported just before 6 a.m. Thursday when a woman who was driving southbound on the SR 415 was approached from behind by a car that was driving erratically with no headlights on.

WFTV reported that Bryan Holmes, 18, had allegedly shot several rounds into the woman’s car.

VSO said that Holmes’ driving caused a nearby vehicle to move onto the shoulder to let it pass and that he had tried to drive between that vehicle and the woman’s vehicle when he allegedly hit her rear bumper. Afterward, he drove alongside her car for a few minutes. He then allegedly opened fire at one of her windows.

VSO said when they arrived in the area, they counted seven bullets that hit her car.

Deputies used license plate reader technology to identify Holmes 20 to 30 minutes after the shooting, according to VSO. They arrived at his house and noticed the car in the driveway.

At around 8:25 a.m., Holmes got in the car and tried to get back on the road but was stopped by deputies, said VSO. During the interview, Holmes allegedly told the investigators that the woman had tried to cut him off and that he had tried to shoot the tires to disable the car.

WFTV said the woman was not injured.

Holmes has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a concealed weapon used in the commission of a felony by someone under the age of 24, according to VSO. He is being held on a $40,000 bond.
