More than 100 firefighters from Mexico sent to help battle California wildfires

MEXICO CITY — Mexico sent 101 firefighters to help battle California wildfires this week.

Squads from the National Forest Commission will work with firefighters from the United States Forest Service to quell the raging fires.

They were sent first to the Sequoia National Park, where fires started because of a lightning strike.

“The success of fighting fire in California is our interagency cooperation. We look forward to building our partnership during this assignment for further collaboration,” Bob Baird, with the U.S. Forest Service, said on social media. “Fire isn’t just a California problem, it’s a world problem.”

The summer and early fall are considered the rainy season in Mexico, where there are no active fires in 31 of its 32 states.
