More than 100 baby sea turtles found dead along South Carolina beach following Hurricane Isaias

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — More than 100 newly hatched sea turtles were found dead along a South Carolina beach in the wake of Hurricane Isaias, a group that monitors the endangered reptiles said Tuesday.

According to the Myrtle Beach Sun News and WMBF, the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol said as many as 115 sea turtles were killed after the Category 1 storm brought a storm surge to the Cherry Grove neighborhood Monday night. The surge, coupled with high tide, left one nest buried under mounds of sand, the outlets reported.

Beachgoers later found three surviving hatchlings and helped them into the water, group member Linda Mataya told WMBF.
