ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. — An argument between two shoppers at a South Florida Walmart turned dangerous Saturday, with an unmasked man pulling a gun on a shopper who was wearing a face-covering, authorities said.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the argument between the two shoppers at the store in Royal Palm Beach escalated to the point where the unmasked man pulled the gun and threatened to kill the other shopper, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
“The suspect has been identified and is cooperating with the investigation,” sheriff’s spokesperson Teri Barbera said in an email to the newspaper on Wednesday. “The investigation is still open and active.”
While authorities know the man’s identity, his name has not been disclosed publicly, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The specifics of the confrontation also remain undisclosed.
Original report: According to security camera video, the unmasked man was pushing an older man in a wheelchair at the store, the newspaper reported. The man in the wheelchair had a red neckerchief.
The unmasked shopper was approached by another man, and after a verbal exchange he made an obscene gesture, the Sun-Sentinel reported. The unmasked man then pulled a handgun from his waistband and made the threat, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
In the video, a young girl is seen trying to grab the masked man’s hand and pull him away. Another man, also wearing a mask, can be seen attempting to intervene, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
The unmasked man then left the store, pushing the wheelchair to a white Chevrolet Equinox SUV in the parking lot, WSVN reported.
Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the man or has any other information to contact Crime Stoppers of Palm Beach County anonymously at 800-458-8477 and online at crimestopperspbc.com.
