Man doesn’t drive drunk, but allows 13-year-old to get behind wheel to get ice cream, police said

LUBBOCK, Texas — A driver failed to yield to a police vehicle, and the driver was pulled over.

It sounds like any other traffic stop.

But police in Lubbock, Texas, found out it was anything but normal when they discovered a 13-year-old girl behind the wheel of an SUV last month and an adult in the passenger’s seat, KLBK reported.

Police had asked the driver for her license and proof of insurance, but she told the officer she didn’t have one and then said how old she was, KCBD reported.

Police said Javier Martinez-Aguilar was drunk and allowed his stepdaughter to drive them to get ice cream.

Police said the man was so intoxicated that he couldn’t get his license out of his wallet. He’s been charged with criminal negligence and child endangerment, KLBK reported.

A family member picked up the girl, KCBD reported.
