The surcharge will amount to an additional 40 cents on customer orders. According to an Instacart news release, “every cent of the new, temporary fuel surcharge will be passed directly onto the shopper.”

As of Sunday, the average gas price in the U.S. was $4.25, according to the American Automobile Association.

Instacart’s move to help offset rising gas prices follows actions taken by other app-based delivery services. Lyft and UberEats also have implemented temporary fuel surcharges.

Instacart says the fuel surcharge will be implemented over the next month, while UberEats told Fox Business that its 35 cent to 45 cent surcharge would be in effect for at least the next 60 days.
