Heavenly body: Hubble telescope captures sharp image of Saturn during summertime

NASA scientists received a photograph of the solar system’s most heavenly body this month.

Hubble Space Telescope transmitted a crisp image showing summertime on Saturn, NASA officials said.

Hubble captured the image of the solar system’s giant ringed planet on July 4, when it was 839 million miles from Earth, NASA announced in a statement.

The photograph shows Saturn’s northern hemisphere, which is pointed toward the sun and Earth. The photograph, a color composite displays a slight reddish haze. There is also a blue hue near the planet’s southern pole, which is due to changes in Saturn’s winter atmosphere.

The composition of Saturn’s atmosphere is mostly hydrogen and helium, with traces of ammonia, methane, water vapor, and hydrocarbons that give it a yellowish-brown color, NASA said in its release.

Two of Saturn’s ice-covered moons are visible in the Hubble photograph. Enceladus is at the bottom of the frame, while Mimas is located to the right of the planet.

“It’s amazing that even over a few years, we’re seeing seasonal changes on Saturn,” Amy Simon. lead investigator at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.

This image was taken as part of the NASA’s Outer Planets Atmospheres Legacy project, the agency said.
