LONDON — British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding and her husband, Caspar Jopling, are expecting their first child together, she revealed this week.
In a Vogue article published Tuesday, Goulding and Jopling, who wed in August 2019, learned she was pregnant around the couple’s first anniversary.
“It was crazy because it was our one-year anniversary,” Goulding, 34, told the magazine. “That was not the plan. The thought of getting pregnant didn’t seem like it could be a reality. Becoming pregnant kind of made me feel human. I want a better word than womanly, [but] — I have curves I’ve never had before. I’m enjoying it. My husband’s enjoying it.”
She said she is now 30 weeks into her pregnancy and “excited to be a mother,” according to Vogue. However, the pandemic has presented some challenges, she added.
“You have your partner, and you have your friends, but in a pandemic, it can feel particularly lonely,” she told the magazine. “Because it wasn’t something I had planned for right now, [and] I knew it was a more solitary journey because of what’s going on. I think that made me keep it very secretive and made me very protective over it.”
After the article was published, Goulding took to Instagram to thank the magazine, as well as her friends and fans.
