Democratic National Convention: What time, channel, who is speaking, how to watch, livestream

The Democratic National Convention will begin Monday, but you won’t see party members gathered to cheer the nomination of Joe Biden as the party’s candidate for president.

Instead, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the convention will be coming from remote locations instead of Milwaukee where it was set to be held.

Biden announced last week that he will not travel to Wisconsin, but would instead give his acceptance speech from Delaware. DNC officials say the party’s business will be conducted virtually.

Primetime keynote speeches will feature former first lady Michelle Obama on Monday, Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, on Tuesday and former President Barack Obama on Wednesday before Biden accepts the nomination in an address on Thursday.

Here is what we know about the convention and how to watch it.

When does it begin?

The convention begins on Monday and continues until Thursday evening when Joe Biden is expected to accept the Democratic nomination for president.

What we know now about the schedule

Each night has a different theme. Here is the schedule:

Monday – “We the People”: The Biden campaign will highlight what they say are the nation’s three major crises – racial injustice, the struggling economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tuesday – “Leadership Matters”: Health care workers, small business owners, veterans and activists will highlight the evening aimed at highlighting the differences between Biden and Trump. A DNC official told USA TODAY that the evening will “raise the question, what does leadership mean?”

Wednesday – “A More Perfect Union” will lay out Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan for the economy the pandemic.

Thursday – “America’s Promise”: Biden will accept his party’s nomination as the others speaking that night will talk about his character and his record in Washington.

The convention will be streamed by the DNC here when it begins on Monday.
