According to the New York City Police Department, the boy fell from the Taino Towers complex in the East Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan at about 11 a.m. EDT, WPIX-TV reported.

Police said the child landed on the fifth-floor scaffolding of the building, according to the television station.

The victim was taken by emergency medical technicians to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, WABC-TV reported.

“They said that a child fell from the 29th floor and I started crying,” Thelma Rollins, a neighbor, told WPIX.

Another neighbor said she heard the boy’s fall.

“Then all of a sudden, you hear a thump … like a boom!” the woman told the television station.

The police were trying to determine how the child fell and whether he was with an adult at the time, a NYPD spokesperson said.

Police said an investigation is ongoing.
