EASTPOINTE, Mich. — UPDATE: Law enforcement officials in Michigan said Wednesday that the shooting that occurred Tuesday was not related to a face mask dispute as previously reported.
Original report: A man was shot and killed Tuesday night at a Michigan gas station, witnesses said.
According to the Macomb Daily, the deadly shooting occurred about 9 p.m. at a Speedway on 10 Mile Road in Eastpointe. Friends of a gas station employee said a young man was involved in a dispute about face masks inside the store, the newspaper reported. Gunfire ensued, and police arrived to find the man dead by a gas pump, authorities said.
In a Tuesday night Facebook post, Eastpointe police said officers had arrested two people in connection with the incident. The department did not release the suspects’ names.
“We are still investigating,” the post read. “We do not believe there is any threat to the public. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends.”
No further information was immediately available.
