UPDATE @7:55 a.m.

The driver of a van was killed when the van crashed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer around 5:30 a.m.

Authorities said the semi-tractor trailer was stopped in traffic on northbound I-75 just north of I-70. The traffic was caused by a semi-trailer fire that closed all northbound I-75 lanes near National Road in Vandalia earlier in the morning.

There were no skid marks or any signs the van’s driver tried to stop, leading authorities to believe the driver was looking down or didn’t notice the stopped semi. Authorities did say they don’t believe the driver was traveling much fasted than the posted speed limit, which is 65 mph in the area.

As of 8:15 a.m., the left lane was open. Officials said an additional lane should reopen by 8:45 a.m.

The ramp from Interstate 70 westbound to I-75 northbound is also closed.

FIRST REPORT

The driver of a van was killed when the van crashed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer around 5:30 a.m.

The crash was just south of where a semi caught fire earlier this morning that shut down all northbound lanes.

Northbound I-75 was closed for a period of time, but the left lane was reopened to traffic just before 5:50 a.m., but traffic remains backed up for miles. An investigator with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office arrived on scene around 6:25 a.m.

As of 7:25 a.m., the right lanes remain closed.

Here are two suggested detours:

  • Take westbound I-70 to Airport Access Road. Take Airport Access Road north to National Road. Take National Road east to I-75, then jump back on northbound I-75
  • Take westbound I-70 to Ohio 202, Old Troy Pike. Take Old Troy Pike north to National Road, then take National Road west until it intersects with I-75.

Officials said it’s unknown when the right lanes will reopen, as crews are also still on scene of the earlier semi fire.
