Senator Portman announces funding for two Ohio airports, including Darke County

CINCINNATI — Ohio U.S. Senator Rob Portman announced funding for two airports in Ohio, in a media release Thursday.

One of the airports is the Darke County Airport in Versailles and the other is the Newark Heath Airport in Licking County.

Both airports are set to receive grants made available through the Airport Terminal Program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the release said.

“This announcement is great news for our Ohio airports and all those who use them,” said Portman.

The Darke County Airport will receive at least $1.3 million so the airport can construct a new terminal building, the release said. The existing terminal building is over 50 years while the Newark Heath Airport will get over 2.3 million to also begin building a new terminal building.

“Thanks to the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and this brand new airport funding,” he said. “Our aging airport facilities can finally be upgraded, leading to better functionality and efficiency for Ohio travelers.”

Portman was one of ten U.S. Senators that crafted the infrastructure bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Biden last year.
