Escaped Northern Ohio inmate captured in Akron

SUMMIT COUNTY — An escaped Northern Ohio inmate has been captured.

Jason Lyle Conrad was arrested at approximately 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree said in a news release.

Surveillance officers and an Ohio State Highway Patrol airplane spotted Conrad attempting to flee near Aqueduct Street in Akron, and pursued him to the area near the intersection of Arlington Street and N. Forge Street where he was taken into custody, according to Fatheree.

On Tuesday, deputies were transporting Conrad to Summa Health in Akron. The sheriff’s office says he was handcuffed and in a boot for a previous injury. While the deputy was removing Conrad from the transport vehicle, he escaped and ran away after removing the boot.

Sheriff’s deputies, Akron police, University of Akron police, Summa police, OSP, and Marshal’s Service all took part in the search for Conrad.

Conrad faces an additional charge of escape, the sheriff’s office said. He was transported to the Summit County Jail.
