Brent Spence Bridge expected to reopen in late December after fiery crash

COVINGTON, Kentucky — The Brent Spence Bridge that connects Ohio and Kentucky via I-71 and I-75, is expected to reopen in late December following a fiery crash last week that will still require repairs, according to Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

The target date for the bridge to reopen to full traffic was set for Dec. 23, Beshear said during a news conference Monday.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Sec. Jim Gray said several repairs will be needed to the bridge, including replacing a section of concrete about 200 feet long and steel beams that support that section, according to our news partners at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

“The good news is, the vertical steel members were not compromised. We will be adding new stringer beams to support the replaced upper deck,” Gray said.

The lower concrete deck will not require replacement, Gray said.

We’ll update this story as more details become available.
