Ohio soldier one of 2 killed in Afghanistan

An Ohio man is one of two U.S. soldiers killed in combat Friday in Afghanistan.

The Pentagon identified the soldiers on Saturday as Army Spc. Joseph P. Collette, 29, of Lancaster, Ohio, and Sgt. 1st Class Will D. Lindsay, 33, of Cortez, Colorado.

Collette was assigned to the 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 71st Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group. Lindsay was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne). Both were based at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Collette was a 2007 graduate of Lancaster High School. He joined the Army in 2010 and arrived at Fort Carson in 2012. He was deployed to Afghanistan on Dec. 27, 2018, according to the Department of Defense.

The fatalities bring to four the number of U.S. soldiers killed so far this year in Afghanistan, the Associated Press reported.
