Celina man arrested, charged with impersonating a police officer

A 31-year-old man is accused of impersonating a police officer in Celina.

Daniel Powers was arrested Oct. 5 near the 600 block of Touvelle Street on charges of impersonating a police officer and obstructing official business. His bond was set as $50,000.

Police responded to a suspicious man displaying and wearing a handgun on his hip and identifying himself as working for the Celina Police Department and Task Force.

It was found that Powers had been knocking on doors and asking residents about a wanted fugitive, 36-year-old Cory D. Gross, claiming to work for area law enforcement.

Powers was wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying a toy handgun with a holster that was found in a nearby wooded area.

The Celina Police Department wants the public to know that Powers does not and has never worked for the Celina Police Department.
